The five “S”s of training, and a busy life….

It has been a very busy week for me. We are  having renovations done to the house so that has been very disruptive. It will be nice when it is all completed but getting to that point is a real hassle. There is drywall dust everywhere, and I mean everywhere. On top of all that excitement Brittany and I have been preparing for our trip to Belarus (I am actually writing this on the way to the airport). We are both looking forward to seeing old friends and helping out in any way that we can. It is a very exciting time!
Just to keep things interesting I also got a new role at work this week. I am excited about that as well as it could add  some more stability to my situation and stability is always good right? I will find out more when I return from Belarus.
I read a quote today about the top 5 “S” of training. They are stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit. I got thinking about how I would rate myself on each of the 5 traits.
Stamina – I would give myself a 8.5 out of 10. Who would be attempting an Ironman if they didn’t excel at stamina right?
Speed – 6.5 out of 10.  I am not fast by any stretch but I am consistent. Of course I am generalizing a bit as I am good on the bike, average on the run, and suck in the water.
Strength – 7 out of 10. My lower body is strong, core is average, upper body could use some work.
Skill – 8 out of 10. Enough said.
Spirit – 9.5 out of 10. I am a dreamer. I think I can do anything I set my mind to, and usually succeed. Without a good spirit, nothing else matters!
My training this week was for 131 kms (in a shortened week due to travel).
