New Year – New Word
Another brand new year is upon us. Last year was filled with excitement and unexpected twists and turns, I don’t imagine this one will be any different. This is typically the time of year when we all make resolutions. We emphasis those things that we want to focus on, and possibly accomplish for the upcoming year. Focus can be a good thing. You know what they say, you improve what you measure!
Brittany challenged us with coming up with one word for 2017 that best describes our intent. After much thought i have landed on “complete”. Over the past few years there have been a few goals that have been longer than one can reasonably expect to complete in one calendar year. The purpose of this blog is one of them. In 2017, I will “complete” the Ironman distance. In 2017, I will complete the publishing of my first book. Yes, complete seems like the appropriate word for the year.
Both children are now back to their home cities. We drove Brandon back to Ottawa on Thursday. The roads were awful, but slow and steady wins the race right? On Saturday morning we got up early and repeated the process for Brittany, but this time we went in the opposite direction to Toronto. They were forecasting extremely bad roads, but they were fine this time. Never trust the Weatherman! Jackie and I are empty nesters once again until the next school break. I have been working my way through The Walking Dead series. I am currently early in season 5. Each time I think about giving up on the series something happens that pulls me back in. In season 4 their was an episode titled “The Grove” that could very well be the best single episode of TV I have ever seen.
Another year of swimming, biking, and running is behind me. Over the past year it is my swimming that has improved the most. It has really helped to be in the pool three mornings a week with a team. I may not be measurably faster, but I am 100% more confident. That will help with the hectic mass starts at the upcoming Ironman races.
This past week I travelled 99 kms during my training. Yeah I just couldn’t go that extra km.
See you at the finish line…
